PSALM 23
A psalm of David.

1The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3    he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
     for his name's sake.
4Even though I walk
     through the valley of the shadow of death,s
I will fear no evil,
     for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
     they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
     in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
     my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
     all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
     forever.

Comments:

It appears that Aunty Mary Ann read the NIV translation. I think that's the one Grandpa memorized "back in Sunday school", but I'm not entirely positive. I remember reading it to him one of the last times he was in the hospital and he started saying it with me. I'm pretty sure he said all the same words. I added the KJV and NKJV for comparison, formatted as per the printed copies that I have (roughly, since mine don't have the footnotes).

I read from my NIV Life Application Study Bible (from Costco - the best $20-30 I ever spent). I like having all the charts, maps, and notes right there with the scripture. I don't agree theologically with everything that's said in the notes, and I even found an error in one of the tables (about the Hebrew months), but as long as you remember that commentary and "helps" are not scripture, I highly recommend that you get one. I copied the scripture above from crosswalk.com and tried to format it as it appears in my Bible.
